Visiting One Tree Hill and the wonderful park surrounding it is always a must for me on my trips home to Auckland. My kids love it too. It is an easy 15 minute drive from downtown Auckland.
Some of their favourite things include being able to walk through fields with sheep casually grazing nearby, climbing to the top of One Tree Hill (which is an extinct volcano), playing hide and seek amongst the trees, getting an ice cream to take away from the Cornwall Park Restaurant, playing ball or catch on the fields below the restaurant, climbing some of the huge oak trees scattered through the park, taking a picnic and spending the day. In the spring, the children love to watch the baby lambs, and dance through the daffodils.
From the top of One Tree Hill, you also get a fabulous 360 degree view of Auckland and its surroundings. Really worth the visit!
